Four decades ago, a group of men and women assembled with the purpose of forming a club to allow them to race their older sports and race cars. By May 21, 1983 the newly formed RMVR took to the track. Of this founding group, the only one to my knowledge still active with us is Tom Ellis (RMVR member #13). Tom has been involved with motorsports in one aspect or another for nearly 50 years. The contributions he’s made to the vintage racing community are numerous and significant. Thanks to the efforts of Tom and those other pioneers, we’re able to join with other vintage racing enthusiasts and enjoy these cars, the competition, and camaraderie with other club members. Soooo….come on out to HPR May 13-14 for RMVR’s first race weekend of the season as we recognize Tom Ellis and begin the next 40 years of racing in the vintage spirit. WHAT:: Tom Ellis Tribute at the RMVR 40th Anniversary Spring Sprints WHERE:: High Plains Raceway WHEN:: Weekend of May 13-14, 2023 Bonus! HPR will host RMVR-ONLY open lapping on Friday, May 12. It's a great opportunity to shake down & de-bug both car and driver prior to a weekend of racing. To register for Friday lapping at HPR, visit their website HERE. Another Bonus! THIS YEAR there can be a CO-DRIVER for your car. You must already be registered for the two-day event for a CO-DRIVER to then register to drive your car. Your co-driver must log-in under their username and password and sign up using the Optional CO-DRIVER choice. (They should NOT sign up for the weekend entry.) Cost for them is $50. Current Membership required, as always. Just announced - Registering VMC-affiliated club members will receive an honorary RMVR weekend membership, saving you the $75 annual membership dues. This year an added Run Group dedicated to "Fast Formula & Sports Racer" cars: Our RMVR Regular Run Groups are: Small Bore Production cars, Mid-Big Bore Production cars, Formula Ford, Formula Vee. This year RMVR is inviting select Faster Formula and Sports Racer cars from other race organizations to come race with us! This added dedicated run group will be anchored by all our existing faster RMVR vintage Open-Wheel/Sports Racer cars (e.g. Air-cooled FSV, FB, SRs, F5000 etc.). Invited cars include all Post ’81 Formula Fords * SRs (Kent and Fit powered), FC/F2000 (Pinto powered), S2000 (Pinto powered), water-cooled FSV, Formula Mazda, and SCCA FX/FC/FE/FE2/ESR . These invited Formula or Sports Racers must have a current logbook and annual inspection from a VMC organization, SCCA, or NASA. When entering these invited Post '81 cars, please select "Post-'81 Formula & SRs" when prompted as the class. TO DO LIST: • Finish those last projects on your racecar. • Check over your trailer – brakes, wheel bearings, tires OK? • Make sure your safety gear is up to date (and your driver’s suit still fits!) • Get an annual tech for your car. • Show up at HPR, race, socialize and share your vintage spirit!
